Peter Schirling is a Senior Consulting Engineer with the IBM Research, based in Hawthorne , New York . He is part of the Digital Media Standards Group working on all aspects of Digital Media from CODECS to content protection technology. Peter is also corporate consult on MPEG for IBM worldwide. Pete has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and has been with IBM for 39 years, 30 of which were with IBM Microelectronics.
Pete is currently active on standards committees including the MPEG committee (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29 WG 11), ISMA (Internet Streaming Media Alliance), SMPTE, OASIS and other consortia and initiatives. These committees are active in standards development related to the distribution and rights management technologies for all forms of digital content over networks worldwide. He was the co-project editor for part 1 of MPEG-2, ISO/IEC 13818-1 (Systems) and Project Editor for the 2nd Edition of the MPEG-2 Systems Specification.
Peter is a Senior member of IEEE. Over the years Pete has been involved in many IBM projects including the development of RISC architecture, flat film memory, and the IBM Digital Video Products Group which developed and produced MPEG related products for the IBM Company. Pete became the chair of L 3.1 in 1993 and Head of Delegation in 1994 and has since retired from those positions. |
Dr. Huang Tiejun

Dr. Tiejun Huang is the director of the Research Center for Digital Media of the Graduate School and a researcher of the Institute for Computing Technology in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the secretary-general of the Audio and Video Coding Standard working group of China (short for AVS). He received his PhD degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 1998 and master's and bachelor's degree from Wuhan University of Technology in 1995 and 1995, all in computer science. Dr. Huang's interesting research includes digital media processing and understanding, digital library, video compression and HCI. He is the principal investigator of about ten research projects sponsored by the national Sci&Tech organizations such as the China National Hi-Tech Research and Development Project. |
